How Does Exercise Affect Sleep?

how does exercise affect your sleep renew dental sleep dentistryExercise, particularly moderate cardio and aerobic workouts, have been linked to improving a number of health benefits including anxiety and depression. Surprisingly, only a few studies have been performed to research the effects of exercise on chronic insomnia. One study found that moderate-intensity aerobic exercise reduced the time it took to fall asleep and lengthened sleeping time compared to subjects who did not exercise. The same study also showed no sign of sleep improvements in subjects who performed vigorous aerobic or weight lifting workouts.

Though these studies all point to a link between certain types of exercise and improved sleep, we still don’t know how the effects of exercise compare to other sleep disorder treatments. We also don’t know what exercises are best for treating sleep disorders or what time of day they should be performed. However, we do know that some type of exercise is good for everyone, and it’s never too late to add light to moderate exercise such as walking to your day.
